I continued exploring how to entice people to disconnect from their phones in hopes of inspiring deeper conversations. Someone must leave their phone light on to illuminate these sculptural lights. When they retrieve their phone they will be noticed removing a light from the group experience. Colour is created by any type of filter at the light source, and easily changed. Felt pens, coloured plastic and a piece of a dogs favourite type of ball (the green one) were used here. 2017. Acrylic, wood, and iPhone light, 150 x 90 x 25 cm.
I found that an iPhone light can last several hours on a single charge. Enhancing this light with with ACRYLITE® LED acrylic rods fit into discarded rough timber rescued from local tree removals enabled me to create these freestanding, cordless, illuminated sculptural lights. Beyond the intended purpose of disconnecting people from their phones these lights are also a great re-purpose for old phones after an upgrade.
